“Beware the Leaven of Pharisees, which is hypocrisy” Luke 12:1. A most apropos quote for President Obama.
This week President Obama helped to spread the good word from the Bible at the National Prayer Breakfast. As a way to justify more taxes on Americans, the president reiterated a phrase from Chapter 12 of Luke in the Gospel: “for unto whom much is given, much shall be required.” This was immediately after saying this: “I’m willing to give something up as somebody who’s been extraordinarily blessed, and give up some of the tax breaks that I enjoy”. Well, the President did get something right about the biblical phrase he quoted, but it has absolutely nothing to do with wealth or taxes or sacrificing financially for the poor. The exhortation quoted was perfect since that Chapter of Luke’s gospel was directed at hypocrites. By quoting Luke 12:48 President Obama demonstrated to all Americans that he is nothing but a hypocrite.
Luke’s Chapter 12 is rich in imagery and lessons that apply directly to the President and his hypocritical abuse of the Bible to justify his politics and dangerous proposals. Chapter 12 begins with Jesus preaching to a multitude and calling the Pharisees “Hypocrites”. The misunderstood line by the President about “much is required” refers only to what is expected of people in power, not those with wealth. In contemporary America, the President is perfectly emulating the role of the Pharisees in a modern passion play, and not anywhere close to exemplifying the teaching of Jesus. The Pharisees fought Jesus and had him executed by the Romans for daring to preach the truth that the Pharisees had not endorsed. Like the Pharisees, President Obama also defiles the teaching of Jesus when he stands up for abortion on demand, when he tells the Catholic Church they must pay for contraception and morning after pills (teachings the President never proclaims). He emulates the Pharisees when he calls all who stand up for individual freedom “misguided” and “dangerous” or those who seek to guard their income and property from excessive taxes “selfish” and “greedy”. Like the Pharisees, the President would seek to persecute the holy who seek to defend their faith by forcing them to pay for health insurance that violates their conscience or give tax dollars to Planned Parenthood to pay for Abortion. The President should heed the warning of Jesus that says that “but to him that blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven” (Luke 12:10).
The President emulates Jesus’ “Parable of the Rich Fool” when he seeks to “lay up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God” (Luke 12: 21). (The President and so many others often mistake the Bible as speaking of material poverty when it is usually speaking of spiritual poverty). President Obama consistently disregards the ways of God in so many ways but especially when he seeks to steal the wealth of the nation for himself and his exponentially expanding Government. He robs the poor of opportunity when his administration expands debt by over a trillion per year with printed dollars that produce the cruelest tax of all: inflation. It is the poor that the President hurts the most with his inflationary policies while hypocritically claiming to be the defender of the poor. He seeks to deny the right of a poor man to work if he doesn’t pledge allegiance and dues to a Union. He seeks to deny jobs in our economy when he destroys business through excessive and politically motivated taxation and regulation. He sacrifices our sovereignty as a nation and the future of our children when he creates more debt to foreign bankers and foreign nations and allows the U.N. to direct our foreign and domestic policy. God and Jesus create and expect free will and individual dignity of every person; that is violated when President Obama seeks to make them dependant on a nanny state. The President’s hypocrisy is writ large and is obvious with every move he makes in the name of “social justice” while perpetrating unjust policies on a free people that force them to depend on the whims of arrogant elites and the special favor of a crony network to achieve success in their lives. President Obama does this every time he removes the Rule of Law and creates his own “Rule of Man” through a series of arbitrary executive orders and endless federal rules outside of Congress. The appropriateness of Obama’s echo of “to whom much is given, much is required” is on display as he abuses the great power he has been given and proposes that Americans achieve equality through universal mediocrity.
Yes, Mr. President, much is expected of you and you are failing to meet the expectations of the founders of our country and your fellow Americans. You were granted the helm of the government of a free land based on a Constitution that has one purpose only: to protect the liberties of individual Americans. Yet you complain that the Constitution is only a set of “negative liberties” and not a document that extends rights to people from “the state” rather than from God. You reject the responsibility of the great power you were “given” when you tell Americans they will be assassinated without a trial if you and your administration unilaterally declare them an “enemy of the state”. You are not living up to what is “required” of a President of the United States when you are willing to “indefinitely detain” a person under the National Defense Authorization Act without a trial granted by the constitution. President Obama, when you establish a health care rationing system that will force people to suffer or die for the political good of the state and your administration, you are revealing your hypocrisy. Your hypocrisy shows when you deny jobs to hard working people to serve environmental special interests. When you accept a Nobel peace prize and launch missiles and drones to destroy with no declaration of war or explanation to your people, you hypocritically violate the “requirement” to follow the U.S. constitution. Thus your spoken hypocrisy is on full display and cannot be hidden in the dark or the inner rooms as it will be “heard in the light” and “proclaimed on the rooftops” (Luke 12:2).
President Obama is unwise to call on the Bible as his moral source. As he reveals his hypocrisy to the moral guide for tens of millions of Americans, he will awaken another sleeping giant: a moral people. They will recognize that he is using for his political convenience hackneyed and inaccurate interpretations quoted out of context for his own political gain. God and Jesus will not kindly view this behavior. He should be reminded of Jesus’ closing accusation in Luke 12: “Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time”. The “Time” was that of Jesus standing there before the hypocritical Pharisees as the Son of God, while the Pharisees were completely blind to his divinity. Like the Pharisees, President Obama was “given” much as a steward of the most profound miracle of a government in human history: a government designed to serve all individuals, not rulers. Yet, like the Pharisees, the President is not living up to the expectations of what is “required” and tramples on our Constitution, our liberties, our sovereignty, our potential as a people and our very lives while claiming to be a faithful steward. Thanks you Mr. President for self-revealing the true hypocrite you are as you abuse the Bible for your own political purposes. Indeed, the American people should regard President Obama as Jesus pointed out in Luke 12:1: “Beware the leaven of Pharisees, which is hypocrisy”.
