Big Brother Says – Sort Your Trash. Pay More. This is good for you. We are watching.
Let’s Stop this nonsense since IT’s YOUR CITY, not big brother’s!

Prepare to work more at your own home.  Prepare to pay more to the city.  Prepare for mandatory “universal” recycling. If you want to stop this, it will take action from you, the citizen, to do so. But this much is clear, you will have a new routine in your household next year if the extremist environmentalists in charge of our city government have their way. This will be your new routine:

  1. Find a place for another large rolling recycling bin next to your current garbage can.
  2. Sort your trash several times a day into new cans in your home. Sort “Recyclables” into one and trash into another.
  3. Bring the Recyclables to the Recycle Bin and roll it out once per week.
  4. Bring your trash to the Trash Bin and roll it out twice per week.
  5. Pay a higher garbage bill every month.
  6. Have your trash and recycling activity monitored by the city with an electronic chip in your trash can.
  7. Be ready from a call or “friendly” reminder from the city that you didn’t recycle this week.
  8. Repeat every week.
  9. (Prepare to have garbage pickup only one time per week all year including the Florida summers).
  10. (Watch your local church, school or Boy Scout troop lose revenue as recycling is taken away.

If you want to stop this mandatory “universal” recycling program, you need to go to the City Council meetings and tell them “no”. You need to get your friends and family to do the same. You will need to email them at
council@stpete.org and Mayor@stpete.org.

If you choose to do nothing, plan on paying more to get less service from the city while you do more work at home to serve the city and the extremist environmentalists in charge of our government.

Based on research conducted by the Sun Beam Times, it is clear that the City of St. Pete will increase garbage bills at least $3 per month. They will buy a fleet of new recycling trucks and large recycling bins.  They will monitor whether you roll the recycling bins out to the curb every week. They will eventually force you to sort your trash and recycle by reducing the garbage pickup to one time per week.  The city will continue to raise taxes to support this financially unsustainable program with other tax money. You may be able to opt out of having the recycling can at your house, but you will still have to pay a higher garbage bill. Eventually, the once per week trash pickup will force you to recycle. Charities will lose all the recycling revenue they have relied on.

The extreme liberal politicians in charge of our city government (Mayor Rick Kriseman and Council members Darden Rice, Amy Foster, Steve Kornell, Jim Kennedy, and Karl Nurse) WILL force us all to recycle and pay more. They know that only through force, can they cause you to participate. They know this since only about 10% of citizens participate in the current voluntary recycling program that costs $3.75/month. Only by removing your options to have twice weekly trash pickup can they force you to recycle. Only by forcing 82,000 customers to pay a minimum of $36 more per year, can they barely pay for it. This is on top of one of the highest trash rates in Tampa Bay at $22.13 per month now.   They will monitor whether you participate by receiving radio signals from an electronic chip implanted in the recycling bin.  (see other recycling stories here).
