South Pinellas 912 Voter Guide for 2016 General Election

Editors note: The South Pinellas 912 project has produced a voters guide for the 2016 general election on 11/8.  The committee has a good history of thoroughly analyzing candidates and issues for the voters based on the founding principles of our country and likelihood of being consistent with the Constitution of the United States.

From Barbara Haselden….

Friends,

I present the voter guide for November 2016 just in time for the arrival of ballots in the mail!

This guide is meant to be helpful in your considerations of the many items on the ballot.  We have offered our opinion on candidates, State Constitutional Amendments, Pinellas County Charter Amendments and some municipal amendments also.

There may be a few races we are quiet on as we simply could not come to an agreement and so offer no advice.

Thank You for your continued engagement in our country, our state and our county.

Our Thanks to Leader Pete Franco for his hours of work in producing the results of the Election Committee findings you are about to see.

Sincerely,

Barb and the Leaders of S. Pinellas 912 since 2008

The effort the group puts into this is much appreciated. For me, in order to understand more clearly, it would be more helpful if a brief reason why the group came to its conclusion was included.

Thank you for publishing this list, it really helped me narrow down who NOT to vote for in this very crucial Election year. NEVER TRUMP 2016.

    1. EDWARD P GARNIER

SO, I assume you are a Billary Clinton supporter? Making money on dead babies, lying and cheating and all that good corruption stuff?

      Oh well!

      1. John Davison

They’ll be voting like good lil’ liberal sheep… while we try and fix the problems they made. Same ol’, same ol’…

Jocely, that is EXACTLY what I came here to do as well!! Thank y’all for the research, voting opposite this list 😀

I was raised as a republican back in the day when they were for all people!, A republican lead house and senate has been an insult to our country, they shut down, wouldn’t show up so much and would not work as team for the for the better of the American people. Neither Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton are perfect candidates and neither will do well with a republican majority house and senate.
I rather go with who has the best and most experience person with the job of being President of the United Stated and than with someone who thinks he “alone” knows more than the “generals” about ISIS and takes advantage of the middle class and immigrants. Likes to “Fire” people who doesn’t live up to his standards. The Office of the President does not have the absolute power that Trump thinks he will have, that alone shows how insane his thinking and promises are! Trump has incited so much bullying that it’s awful. If America is not great, it’s because of people like Trump and his dark and fear fighting inciting mentality who to me does not have a servant’s heart. This 25 year honorably and distinguished military vet is voting Clinton for President. What makes us great is that we each get to vote for who we want. Thanks for the research and links.

Thanks for your comment. However, I disagree that the “lead house and senate has been an insult to our country, they shut down, wouldn’t show up so much and would not work as team for the for the better of the American people.”
The fact is they disagreed with Obama’s dangerous agenda and properly exercised the portion of power given them by the Constitution to try to stop Obama’s anti-constitutional nonsense.

I agree Trump is not qualified to be President. Clinton is also unqualified.

      God Bless.

There is absolutely no reason to vote against retaining Jorge Labarga. He is a strong conservative and anti-communist defender of liberty who has ruled according to the law even when it was not what he wanted. The only reason I can see why anyone would oppose him is because he is Latino, which is truly sickening.

Then again, this site mistakenly puts Donald Trump under the category of “conservative”, so I’m not surprised.

HEre is some info from http://www.flvotesvalues.com/2016/10/24/2016-florida-supreme-court-and-1st-2nd-3rd-4th-5th-district-court-of-appeals-judges-up-for-retention/

Also, Catholic leaders have advised me that Labarga voted to stop a 24 hour waiting period for abortion: https://efactssc-public.flcourts.org/casedocuments/2016/381/2016-381_order_211143.pdf

Justice Jorge Labarga, Vote No to Not Retain

      Appointed by: Governor Charlie Crist.

In 2000, Justice Jorge Labarga played a role in the hanging chad case in Palm Beach County ruling that election officials “could not necessarily disregard irregular chads that had not been fully punched out on ballot cards.” (www.nydailynews.com)

In 2008, Labarga made threatening comments about an attorney. “When you pick a fight with a judge, ultimately, you are gonna lose. Not today, but five years from now, 10 years from now, six years from now. That judge is going to remember you, always, always,” Labarga said.

“And, you know, when you do — there is an old saying that if you go after a judge, you better kill him. Because, like I said, it’s true.” (judicialtransperancynow.blogspot.com)

Labarga also was one of five justices to vote to take 2010 FL Proposed Constitutional Amendment 9 off of the ballot. Amendment 9 would have given Floridians the right to decide whether to participate in the Federal health care system or not. (HealthCareNewsFlorida.org)

Weak arguments. That link regarding the stay on the waiting period tells me nothing. Anyway, judges have to follow the law even if they don’t particularly like it.

        1. Sun Beam Times Post author

I am sure our readers will find many of the arguments above against retaining LeBarga strong. Especially since he was appointed by Charlie Crist and was quoted as saying that he believes that it’s appropriate for judges to have vendettas against lawyers who displease them.

          1. antodav

Charlie Crist was a Republican at the time that he appointed Lebarga. And if your readers are voting for other politicians running for much higher offices who think that vendettas and slander are appropriate, Lebarga shouldn’t bother them at all.
