FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Florida Grassroots Coalition Letter of Support
For Florida House Freedom Caucus Members

Florida (April 6, 2017)  Over 60 leaders of Florida conservative grassroots organizations past and present express their support for Florida members of the House Freedom Caucus, which include Representatives Ron DeSantis, Bill Posey and Ted Yoho.

Conservatives in Florida commend these Congressmen for standing firm with some of their colleagues in the Freedom Caucus to object to the faux repeal of Obamacare titled American Health Care Act, in its current form, that does nothing to lower premiums nor bring relief to the American public.

The letter states “We are proud of the conduct of Representatives Ron DeSantis, Ted Yoho and Bill Posey, and appreciate their willingness to work towards a consensus where principles are not compromised, and where solutions rooted in our liberty can be secured.”

Conservatives throughout Florida are encouraged to contact their member of Congress and ask that they follow the leadership displayed by these three members of Congress who are in keeping their campaign promise to repeal Obamacare.

FLORIDA GRASSROOTS COALITION

Date: April, 5, 2017

To: Representatives Ron DeSantis, Bill Posey and Ted Yoho

Re: Letter of Appreciation

Gentlemen,

We the undersigned are representatives of the grassroots in Florida who arose in 2010 in opposition to government-controlled health care that became known as Obamacare.  We wish to express our appreciation for your leadership in repealing Obamacare and keeping your campaign promises.

As predicted, Obamacare failed the American public by placing heavy regulations, burdens and penalties on individuals and businesses alike to buy expensive, one-size-fits all plans that come with high deductibles, rising premiums, limited choices and misguided policy focused on issuing health cards over health care.

Since 2010, we had been promised by our Representatives that if we won back the House and the power of the purse it held, Obamacare would be repealed. When this didn’t happen we were told we needed the Senate to secure the Legislative branch and its lawmaking authority to repeal Obamacare. There was a short period of hope when a repeal bill passed both branches of Congress in December 2015 with the blessing of every Republican lawmaker but then we were told we also needed control of the Executive branch to override a veto and repeal Obamacare “root and branch”.

After a stunning win in November 2016, there was renewed hope that the nightmare of Obamacare was over and the repeal bill vetoed in January 2016 by President Obama could now be signed into law by the new president, perhaps even on Inauguration Day. Clearly there was precedent in passing the repeal bill that cleared Congress a year prior that Republicans had voted for unanimously.

Imagine our horror when days after Inauguration turned into weeks, with no repeal bill forthcoming. It appeared the clock was purposefully being run out causing lost momentum which gave the left a chance to organize resistance so that Republican lawmakers could be “softened up” in townhalls over President’s Day recess and made more compliant.

Rumors started surfacing that House Leadership was working in secret on a comprehensive bill. Conservatives were not welcome and were locked out of the process. What finally emerged did not resemble the simple 2015 repeal bill at all. Lawmakers were given a binary take it or leave it choice and no amendments were to be made. If they balked, they would be labeled obstructionists and interfering with other pressing legislative initiatives. Many lawmakers buckled under the pressure.

There are however several who stood up for us and withstood the pressures to cave on first principles. Thoughtful Freedom Caucus conservatives such as Representatives Ron DeSantis, Ted Yoho and Bill Posey are to be commended for standing firm with some of their colleagues in the Freedom Caucus to save us from faux repeal which would do nothing to lower premiums nor bring relief to the American public. They are willing to debate in good faith with logic, common sense, moral clarity and civility on which America was built.  Only those with no principled argument would “just hang up” on such debate.

We in are proud of the conduct of Representatives Ron DeSantis, Ted Yoho and Bill Posey, and appreciate their willingness to work towards a consensus where principles are not compromised, and where solutions rooted in our liberty can be secured.

Thank You Congressmen Ron DeSantis, Ted Yoho and Bill Posey for your outstanding service on this matter.

Sincerely,

I propose a national post card mail campaign to Trump to Support H.R.1718 (or similar), a Complete Repeal the ACA by December 17th to get it ‘off the books’ and force the problem from the President back to Congress.

I also proposed creating a separate subsidized national plan for ‘citizens’ with serious illnesses and preexisting conditions to relieve the cost burden from regular plans.

      Great ideas.
      1. The grassroots needs to rise up for such a post-card campaign.
      2. The plans for patients with critical illnesess are possible- state pools for those who can’t get insurance are part of the Freedom Caucus plan.
